NVHR welcomes Daniel Raymond as Director of Policy and is promoting Dr. Adrienne Simmons to Director of Programs in a new organizational structure to lead the organization in 2021.
Washington, D.C. (December 17, 2020) – The National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable (NVHR), a national coalition working to eliminate viral hepatitis, today announced the new leadership of two directors who will drive forward the strategic direction of the organization. NVHR is pleased to welcome Daniel Raymond as Director of Policy and is excited to promote Dr. Adrienne Simmons to Director of Programs. The dual-director leadership model follows the structure of NVHR’s parent organization, the Hepatitis Education Project (HEP), allows for more detailed policy and programmatic efforts, and maximizes the skillsets of the directors.
“As NVHR fights for the elimination of viral hepatitis, the addition of Daniel and promotion of Adrienne to NVHR’s leadership team continues the excellent efforts the organization has led over the last two years as a program of HEP, and will ensure a strong, stable leadership as we embark on new projects in 2021,” said Michael Ninburg, Executive Director of HEP. “In Daniel, we’re excited to welcome an expert in health policy who is familiar with NVHR’s history and who is aligned with our future objectives. Adrienne joined NVHR in July and quickly proved herself indispensable. In the relatively short time she has been with us, Adrienne has effectively managed NVHR’s advocacy, policy, and programmatic developments.”
Daniel Raymond joins NVHR after most recently serving as the Deputy Director of Planning and Policy at the National Harm Reduction Coalition where he was involved in policy efforts since 2003. Daniel previously served on NVHR’s former steering committee from 2006 to 2014, and was chair of the steering committee from 2011 to 2013. He brings extensive health policy experience and relationships to the team, especially as it relates to the intersection between harm reduction and viral hepatitis. As Director of Policy, Daniel will be responsible for spearheading NVHR’s federal and state policy efforts, including building relationships with lawmakers to advance our policy priorities in Congress and at the state level.
Dr. Adrienne Simmons joined NVHR in July, 2020 after two years of pharmacy residency training at UNC Medical Center where she gained clinical and administrative experience in hepatology, HIV, medication access, and 340B. As Director of Programs, Adrienne will primarily oversee NVHR’s treatment access efforts with the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation (CHLPI) at Harvard Law School, hepatitis elimination work with the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University and CHLPI, and lead the Voices4Hep advocacy network.
Adrienne and Daniel will work closely together on NVHR’s strategic priorities, including working with fellow advocates and our partners at federal and state health agencies and managing the day-to-day operations of the organization. The dual-director leadership model was chosen in close consideration with HEP leadership and the NVHR Advisory Committee.
