The World Hepatitis Alliance invites you to become an Official Member

World Hepatitis Day 2010

As an existing supporter of the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) we would like to invite you to register for official membership, as part of a new formalised membership structure. The new membership structure will be officially launched at AASLD's 60th Annual Meeting - you are invited to apply for membership now.

There are two types of membership – full membership and associate membership

Full member organisations need to be patient-driven, meaning that the needs and views of patients drive each organisation’s strategy, policies and activities in a significant way and that the organization is capable of representing the needs and views of these patients. Associate membership is for healthcare-related organisations that are not eligible to become full members (detailed criteria for each are attached).

The benefits that membership brings you...

  • Campaign Materials - All members will be provided with membership logos and have access to template campaign material, including awareness-raising tools, as well as support and advice from the WHA
  • Global Community - Members will be provided with contact details of other groups operating in their country and in their region and encouraged to interact with them to help share best practice and work together to achieve common national, regional and global goals
  • ‘This is hepatitis…’ monthly newsletter - Members will also receive monthly newsletters providing updates on the latest national, regional and global activities of the hepatitis community and offering members the opportunity both to learn from other members and show-case their own work
  • ‘This is hepatitis…’ e-Alerts - providing you with breaking news, campaign materials and ideas on how to deliver effective local campaigns
  • Capacity Building - The WHA has produced a range of materials, including toolkits, to support members in their advocacy and awareness-raising work, as well as a guide to fundraising. Members will also receive regular updates to the toolkits. Webinars (online learning teleconferences) will be provided for those who would like guidance on public relations, public affairs and fundraising
  • Shaping the Future - The WHA is a patient-led organization which coordinates campaigns for patients, by patients. Full members will have also voting rights entitling them to elect a Board member for their region. Elections will take place every two years with the first election in June 2010

Membership is currently free but is limited to organisations; it is not open to individuals. All members are encouraged to support globally-led initiatives including awareness-raising activities around World Hepatitis Day on 19th May each year, to present their respective governments with the ‘12 Asks for 2012’ programme and to regularly communicate their activities to the WHA Board.

Sign up now to join the World Hepatitis Alliance by reading the attached membership application pack and emailing the application form to membership@worldhepatitisalliance.org.

World Hepatitis Day 2010

World Hepatitis Day 2010World Hepatitis Alliance announces
plans for 2010

The World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) is pleased to announce the final plans for World Hepatitis Day 2010, including a new disease-awareness campaign ‘This is hepatitis…’

The ‘This is hepatitis…’ campaign has been created specifically to enable patient groups to develop their own national and local plans, and the new theme is designed to support the existing ‘Am I Number 12?’ campaign which continues to be used around the world as part of awareness-raising initiatives. ‘This is hepatitis…’ will for the first time tell the global human story of what viral hepatitis actually means – communicated by the people most closely affected by the diseases to generate increased understanding among the general public.

Thank you for your dedication in responding to the viral hepatitis epidemics in the United States!

The attached plan (950K pdf) provides an overview of the full 2010 World Hepatitis Alliance campaign, including activities aimed at:

  • Raising global disease awareness
  • Driving global policy change
  • Providing WHA members groups with global support

Securing a WHO resolution
A major part of the 2010 campaign is focused on supporting a WHO resolution on viral hepatitis, which itself represents the best chance for global agreement on a coordinated approach that will deliver real improvements in hepatitis awareness, prevention, treatment and support. Amongst other things the WHA will be developing a WHO lobbying toolkit that will encourage, inform and enable patient groups to engage with their governments.

Working together we can secure a WHO resolution on viral hepatitis!
If you have any questions regarding the 2010 campaign please contact worldhepday@fleishman.com, but in the meantime look out for additional e-alerts with new materials and campaign updates over the coming weeks.
