NVHR Submits Letter to the President's Commission on the Opioid Crisis

On August 21, NVHR submitted a letter commenting on the Draft Interim Report of the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis. In our letter, we ask the Commission to address the hepatitis B and C epidemics as tragic public health consequences of the opioid crisis when compiling its Final Report.

NVHR specifically urges the Commission to recommend linking people with opioid use disorders to screening, vaccination, treatment, and care for hepatitis B and C. We also ask the Commission to recommend that the President support expanded access to syringe service programs, treatment alternatives to incarceration, and the protection of Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. You may read and download the letter by clicking here.

We encourage everyone in the hepatitis community to submit comments calling attention to the hepatitis B and C epidemics and asking that strategies to fight the opioid crisis include a robust effort to eliminate hepatitis B and C as public health threats in the United States. You may submit your comments to commission@ondcp.eop.gov.
