Job Announcement NVHR Policy Analysis ConsultantSeptember, 2011The National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable seeks a Policy Analyst consultant located in Washington, D.C. The position is open immediately until filled.About the PositionNVHR is seeking an outstanding policy analyst to support the development of effective strategies to achieve NVHR goals for addressing viral hepatitis through federal health policy. As a consultant to the leadership of NVHR, the policy analyst will research and formulate proactive policy positions for increasing viral hepatitis diagnosis, care and treatment. The selected candidate will have the knowledge, experience and connections to identify opportunities to advance viral hepatitis services in federal agencies and laws, including the Affordable Care Act.In collaboration with the Director and NVHR Steering Committee the Policy Analyst will:1.  Research and develop thorough analyses of opportunities and strategies to expand and scale up viral hepatitis services, including a comprehensive report outlining a roadmap for increasing hepatitis B and hepatitis C diagnosis rates across key populations, settings, and federal programs2.  Monitor and respond to implementation of health care reform, identifying and advocating for opportunities to leverage the Affordable Care Act to increase viral hepatitis services and care 3.  Engage federal agencies on NVHR’s priorities and concerns for expanding viral hepatitis services, including monitoring the implementation of the HHS Viral Hepatitis Action Plan Additional duties as assigned

  • Support and contribute to the development and implementation of NVHR’s federal policy positions and strategy on a range of issues
  • Cultivate relationships with federal policy staff, researchers, other experts, and coalition partners
  • Draft federal policy briefs, testimony, report language, and other written materials
  • Track relevant federal legislation, activities of federal agencies, and policy initiatives of other national organizations
  • Support NVHR's Congressional advocacy where appropriate
  • ·Represent NVHR in select coalition meetings and other events

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Public Policy and/or related field, preferred,  and a minimum of four years experience in health-related policy or equivalent combination of 10 years education and experience
  • Knowledge of the federal legislative process
  • Understanding of health policy
  • Commitment to social change a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

CompensationCompensation will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the responsibilities of the consultancy.
