Dear Colleague

On December 15th, public health advocates across the country will contact their Senators and representatives, urging them to save the Prevention and Public Health Fund.

NVHR joins our colleagues in public health and we urge all of our members to do the same. Protecting the Fund can translate into increased funding for viral hepatitis, including a $10 million increase for viral hepatitis prevention called for in current Senate report language! The Prevention and Public Health Fund is once more coming under attack. The Fund provides $15 billion over ten years for prevention and public health activities and funds have already been received by local and state health departments for immunizations, performance improvement and chronic disease prevention.

The House Republicans on December 9 proposed the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2011 which includes a $8 billion cut in the Prevention and Public Health Fund to stop pending Medicare physician payment cuts and pay for a payroll tax holiday. The “Doc Fix” or Sustainable Growth Rate cut is an annual issue that must be addressed by Congress in order to stave off Medicare physician reimbursement cuts of 27 percent.

It is important that you contact your Members of Congress and let them know that the Prevention and Public Health Fund must be maintained.

There are some great web based email links that can help you contact to your representatives. Be sure to add your own comments about the importance of the Prevention and Public Health Fund for people affected by viral hepatitis.

What else can you do?
